Educators at MCSM

There are teachers at MCSM H.S. that are truly dedicated individuals. They put thoughtful care into crafting lesson plans each and everyday. These teachers do this not just because it is required of them, they do this because they know it makes a difference. These teachers are not satisfied with a 70% passing rate like some teachers. Some teachers at MCSM H.S. who are satisfied with a 70% passing rate have been known to use PowerPoint presentations and have also been known not to plan at all for their classes. Instead of using their time planning for lessons, they use their time relaxing. I have known and worked with Mr. Albetta for 3 1/2 years and I can say that he is one of the most patient supervisors at MCSM H.S. He spends countless hours preparing and developing curriculum that help teachers develop cohesive units. Under his leadership the social studies department boast a 95% passing rate on state exams. As a person who closely works with the Social Studies Dept I can honestly say that Mr. Albetta is a sincere man, that has good intentions, but a few teachers have their own agendas that have nothing to do with helping children. I would be happy to reveal my name, because I believe in what I say, but I am honestly intimidated by these teachers. I applaud Mr. Albetta for his courage to do his job, and to always put the educational needs of the students first!

Dean Hernandez

Mr. Hernandez was the only Dean at MCSM during the 2011- 2012 school year. Mr. Hernandez is also a physical education teacher and the coach of the boys soccer team. The students at MCSM respect Mr. Hernandez’s committment to helping them succeed. Whether it is helping them get to class on time, or teaching them life long fitness skills, Mr. Hernandez is a dedicated educator committed to helping kids succeed!

Mr. Albetta, Assistant Principal

Mr. Albetta is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever met. He arrives to work before most and is often the last to leave. He is an Assistant Principal at MCSM and is responsible for supervising Security, Social Studies , health and Physical Education and he is also the Athletic Director for 17 PSAL teams. While Mr. Albetta is stricked and by the book, but he truly cares for each students edcational success. I often see Mr. Albetta speaking gently with students, guiding them to make good educational decisions. His supervision of the social studies department has yielded the highest student performance to date in Global Studies. An 90% passing rate and a 50 mastery rate. These kind of numbers speak volumes about his committment to student achievement. Keep up the good work Mr. Albetta!

J. David Jimenez, Principal

David Jimenez has been the principal of Manattan Center for Science and Math H.S. for 5 years. He is not the typical principal, he is an amazing principal! He greets each of his students as they enter school everyday. Students know he really cares, and they in turn care for him. This was crystal clear during the 2012 graduation ceremonies. As Mr. Jimenez spoke at the podium, the class of 2012 couldn’t contain themselves, and cheered for him with such excitement, and respect. Exuberance like this can not be faked, but it is a testimony to their hard work and the hard work of their principal. Mr. Jimenez is building a legacy for himself as perhaps one of the most effective educational leaders of all times. I know that history will remember Principal Jimenez is an intelligent, kind hearted man that’ll always put the needs of his students first, second and third!

School Safety at MCSM

MCSM H.S. has amazing students. Not only are they intelligent, but they are all very well behaved. As a result, MCSM is one of the safest High Schools in NYC. But kids will be kids, and the dean at MCSM are a huge part of that.
Mr. Albetta reported to the SLT in May of 2012 that the incident rate at MCSM was at an all time low. In fact it has gone down each year that he has been the Assistant Principal of Security. Having great kids is a big part of that, but setting clear expectations, and having systems in place that hold students accountable for their behavior is why students at MCSM are safer now than ever before.
In 2012 there was only one dean at MCSM, and his name is Mr. Hernandez. He monitored the behavior of 1,650 students day in and day out. Never before in the history of this school has there only been one dean, but in 2012 he was the only one. Mr. Hernandez monitored the basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor and the third floor everyday. Mr. Hernandez was never seen using the elevator, he would use the stairs because that’s the most likely place that kids would be hanging out, cutting class.
Many deans of the past were known to make deals with kids that would condone inappropriate behavior and that in turn lead to lower graduation rates, higher incident rates, and higher student suspension rates. I will not use the names of those individuals of the past but let’s say one of them I am refering to is very fond of sweat paints, and the New York Yankees.
It’s very simple, MCSM H.S.is a much safer place now than ever before because of Assistant Principal Albetta, and Dean Hernandez.
